A little time off....

On Friday, Debra and I made a trip to Northern Indiana to watch my nephew Ethan play football. Ethan is a "stand-out" wide receiver for the Maconaquah Braves in Bunker Hill, Indiana and was rate #11 in the state. I had never seen him play football, although this is his senior year and he is one of the team captains. We really enjoyed being with my two sisters and their families for a couple of days.

On Saturday, we just rested by lounging around my younger sister's house. Thank God for Direct TV which allowed me to see the Tennessee/California game. Now that's the way to start a new season!

This morning, I preached at the Kokomo, Indiana church, which is the first church my father pastored. It was good to see all of the hard work that has gone into keeping the work going there. My brother-in-law, Victor has served as the pastor for the past six years. It was over twenty-years-ago that I baptized him in the White River in Indiana, and at the General Assembly, I was blessed to see him ordained a Bishop in the Church of God of Prophecy.

The Lord gave us a great day to travel home, and He kept His hand of protection on us as we made the 350 mile trip home. As I write, I just finished my evening devotion and am ready to call it a day.

I trust the Lord blessed all of you in your churches today and that souls were added to the kingdom of God. May the Lord bless and keep each of you.

Come Down From That Ivory Tower

Hebrews 11 has become known as the "Hall of Faith." The reason is quite simple. The writer spends a great deal of time giving a role call of the heroes of the faith. After all, this chapter is about faith, and what better way to teach faith than to illustrate with some real-life examples. Mos of the people in this chapter are well-known, at least by anyone who spent time squirming in a Sunday School class as a small child, or who watched the late-night movies on the local channels featuring their stories. Who were they? Abel, Enoch and Noah. Abel pleased God with his excellent offering, Enoch was so close to God that he actually walked with God to the point that one evening, while walking God said to Enoch, "we are closer to my house than we are yours, so why don't you just go home with me?" Of course, Noah built an ark (according to God's instructions) that saved mankind from total destruction. Then there was Abraham...the father of the faithful. He
