I know that many of you read this blog on a regular basis, and some have the "RSS" reader feature enabled that informs you of when an update has been made. I want to thank you for your interest in the work of the Church of God of Prophecy in Tennessee, and it's associated ministry endeavors.
This post will serve as an update of events since our convention ended on June 12, 2009.
To say that we were blessed in our convention would be an understatement. There are no words to describe the Presence of the Lord as the saints gathered from all over the state to worship and fellowship.
Friday
As the opening day arrived, the Senior Pastors/State Staff and their companions gathered at the convention center for a special appreciate luncheon. As always, this is a highlight for our pastors who love one another and enjoy spending time together. My wife, Debra did an outstanding job of preparation and the meal was fabulous. We were entertained by several video presentations, most notable a special one from Sister Grace Love (with a cameo appearance of Ima Ginnit) and Brother "I" some Love.
The evening session opened with a tremendous worship team led by Jason Duncan. The anointing continued with Pastor Robert Carpenter worshiping with two songs, "southern gospel" style. A highlight of the convention was when Bishop Felton M. Smith, Prelate of the Tennessee First Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ, ascended to the pulpit. We were blessed by a selection from his praise team, and also by the presence of so many of the pastors, first ladies and other dignitaries from the Church of God in Christ. His message "brought the house down" so to speak, and his anointed prophetic ministry was evident. Bishop Smith is a friend to the Church of God of Prophecy and we were honored to have him (and his organist) to preach the word of God with power. A large offering was given by his jurisdiction, along with a seed offering taken at the end of his message that greatly helped defray the cost of the convention.
Saturday
In the morning session, the business went smoothly (as always) and we were absolutely blessed by the ministry of the Chickamauga Loop Praise Team from Chattanooga. Minister Novella Miller and her team always do their work with excellence, for which we are grateful. On Saturday morning, I shared my burden for the State along with a challenge to "Awake to the Lord's Return."
In the afternoon, Londa Richardson hosted a ladies luncheon at the convention center that featured Gospel recording artist Ann Downing. As with everything else Londa does, we had a marvelous lunch and the special personal touch that only Londa and Dwight could do.
Later in the main sanctuary, State Youth Director Joshua Lynn put together an outstanding service, and delivered an anointed message to the convention.
In the evening service, Battlefront Ministries ministered through drama and the word, and one of the highlights of the convention was when Glynis Varlack Allgood sang "Blessed Assurance" with the convention praise team and musicians providing music and vocals accompaniment. Sister Cathy Payne, our International Women's Ministries Director preached the house down with her candid, heart-felt personal testimony and sermon. In fact, guests at the host hotel were drawn to the services by the power of God, where they were ministered to.
After the evening service, the youth ministries department hosted an afterglow that went well past midnight, with music, worship and the Word. Special thanks to Joshua Lynn and his team for making this happen.
Sunday
On Sunday morning, the convention business committee gave their report and we concluded with an ordination/consecration service and final words by the overseer.
We heard glowing testimonies and reports of the Lord's goodness during the convention and high praise for the facilities and our gifted staff.
This convention is now history and will be forever remembered not only for the great location, worship and Word, but also for the Presence of the Holy Spirit.
