Finally home again...

Just a little-while-ago, Debra and I returned from the International Assembly of the Church of God of Prophecy in Greensboro, North Carolina. We have been gone from home for three weeks attending pre-assembly meetings, International Presbytery meetings and finally the assembly.

Our hearts rejoice as we remember the wonderful way the Holy Spirit moved doing the meetings of the International Presbytery and the International Assembly itself. Delegates gathered from over 120 nations of the world to rejoice in the Presence of the Lord and seek direction for this movement we are a part of. We came away with a renewed sense of vision and purpose and are grateful for the knowledge that the Lord Himself has a destiny for us, and that you and I can share together in it.

In the meeting of the International Presbytery (110 presiding bishops) three new General Presbyters were selected to serve the church:

Caribbean (Clayton Martin)

Central America (Benjamin Feliz)

South America (Gabriel Vidal)

Also in these meetings, the General Presbyters of were affirmed for the following areas:

Asia, Oceana (David Browder)

Africa (Sherman Allen)

Europe, CIS, Middle East (Clayton Endicott)

At the conclusion of the International Presbyter meetings, the Bishops of North America met and selected two new members of the North American Leadership Council. Selected were:

Jeffery Davis

E.C. McKinley

Also, I was reappointed to serve the State of Tennessee, and am so thankful for the opportunity to serve.

Come Down From That Ivory Tower

Hebrews 11 has become known as the "Hall of Faith." The reason is quite simple. The writer spends a great deal of time giving a role call of the heroes of the faith. After all, this chapter is about faith, and what better way to teach faith than to illustrate with some real-life examples. Mos of the people in this chapter are well-known, at least by anyone who spent time squirming in a Sunday School class as a small child, or who watched the late-night movies on the local channels featuring their stories. Who were they? Abel, Enoch and Noah. Abel pleased God with his excellent offering, Enoch was so close to God that he actually walked with God to the point that one evening, while walking God said to Enoch, "we are closer to my house than we are yours, so why don't you just go home with me?" Of course, Noah built an ark (according to God's instructions) that saved mankind from total destruction. Then there was Abraham...the father of the faithful. He...

On my way to a resurrection

Someone asked, "Are you on your way to another funeral?" My answer was, "No, I am on my way to a resurrection." Tonight, after having preached my sister's funeral, two church members funerals and visiting a friend whose brother had passed away, I had a little quiet time in my home office. As I often do, I reach for an old book I've found that some books written long ago can speak to my heart. This time, it was a book published in 1946. This passage from J.B. Chapman touched my heart, hope it does yours too. Victor Hugo exclaimed, "The frosts of seventy winters are on my head, but the springtime of eternal youth is in my heart." Lee University News Article: Dr. David Horton Dies Suddenly on Choir Tour: Funeral is Saturday Funeral services for Dr. David Horton have been scheduled for Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the North Cleveland Church of God. The family will receive visitors Friday at Rush Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Dr. David Horton, a veteran member of the Lee University music faculty, died suddenly Monday evening following an apparent heart attack. Horton was in Nassau, Bahamas, on the first day of a post-commencement ministry tour with Campus Choir when he was stricken. His wife Virginia was with him as they returned to their hotel following dinner when he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to a hospital.
