9/11 Remembrance

It doesn't quite seem real. Ten-years ago, terrorists attacked the homeland of the United States and spread death and destruction in New York, Washington, D.C. and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. September 11, 2001 has become this generations Pearl Harbor.

The events of that day set off a global war on terror which have included the deployment of thousands of servicemen and servicewomen and the near loss of civil liberties long cherished in the United States. Things changed that day...no clear-thinking person can think otherwise.

We were living in Montana at the time of the attacks, and there are some images that have not left my mind. Like the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert Kennedy, I can clearly remember where I was when I heard the news. I remember the gut-wrenching feeling that struck me and I knew that our nation would never be the same again.

During this time frame of ten years, a lot has changed....they changed in our nation and in our churches.

I well remember the images of Democrats and Republicans standing on the steps of the Capitol singing God Bless America...I remember a nation united...I also remember the church attendance was up for the week or two after 9/11, but like everything else as time wore on, the partisan bickering resumed, and people began to find other things to do on Sunday.

As we celebrate the 10-year anniversary, let us not forget that while everything else has changed, God has not. He still longs for fellowship with us, He still wants peace to rule in the hearts of men and women everywhere...

In all of our remembering, let us not forget that...

Prayer Request

Yesterday and today have been filled with non-stop preparations and meetings for the General Assembly. The State/National Overseers will be traveling to begin meeting this week in Nashville. Will you please join me in prayer for travel mercies for all of those on their way to Nashville? Also, Sister Wilma Massengale is still in Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. This precious lady and her family need our prayer support, and I hope you will join me in prayer for them, believing the Lord is able to meet their need.

Death Notice - Clara McMahan

I AM SHARING A NOTICE I JUST RECEIVED FROM PASTOR TERRY BARNWELL (KNOXVILLE- ARROWHEAD) Hi Brother; I pray your day is going along well. I wanted to let you know of the passing of Sister Clara McMahan this morning. Her husband Claude has served as deacon for over 52 years at the Arrowhead church. This wonderful lady has touched thousands of lives across Tennessee. She is the sister of Charlie Weaver. The day you and Sister McKinley were with us on the Home Coming Sunday if you remember the youth presented this couple with a light house they had built for them. Sister Clara will be greatly missed greatly. I will let you know the arrangements when I get them if you wished to attend the services. If your schedule will not permit I understand, but I just wanted you to know. Love you and have a blessed day; Bro. Terry
