Abundant Life - Crossville

Last evening I was privileged to be with the wonderful folks at the Abundant Life Church of God of Prophecy in Crossville. The pastor, Ron Tackett and the congregation have always been so warm and pleasant to me personally, and I actually felt like my "batteries" were recharged when I got home around midnight.

All this week, we've worked in the office preparing for the upcoming General Assembly, and finalizing year-end statements.

I would like to say how appreciative I am of my wife, Debra for helping me with the work in the office, and it goes without saying that I am thankful that the Lord has Sister Londa Richardson with us as well. She sacrifices to do a good work for the churches and ministers in the state, as does my wife. I'm blessed with a great team in the office, and with great workers at our Youth Camps, our caretaker, Terry Bear and our District Presbyters, Youth and Children's Directors, and committees.

This has been one of the most "full" years of our lives and the most rewarding. God is doing a great work among us.

Pastor Larry Noe called me from Harriman this afternoon, just before I left to office to tell me that he received five new members into his church on Sunday! Praise the Lord. Five may not sound like a lot in our larger churches, but for the smaller ones, it is great!

I also received a call from a minister in another church wanting to join the Church of God of Prophecy and help us in the mission field called Tennessee. I meet with him next week. He is another in a long-line of ministers that God is sending our way. Praise the Lord for His goodness.

To all of the pastors and other leaders in the State of Tennessee, let me finally say thank you for the sacrifice you and your family make for our people in Tennessee. We have the finest church folks anywhere in the world, right here in Tennessee.

May God bless all of you!

Come Down From That Ivory Tower

Hebrews 11 has become known as the "Hall of Faith." The reason is quite simple. The writer spends a great deal of time giving a role call of the heroes of the faith. After all, this chapter is about faith, and what better way to teach faith than to illustrate with some real-life examples. Mos of the people in this chapter are well-known, at least by anyone who spent time squirming in a Sunday School class as a small child, or who watched the late-night movies on the local channels featuring their stories. Who were they? Abel, Enoch and Noah. Abel pleased God with his excellent offering, Enoch was so close to God that he actually walked with God to the point that one evening, while walking God said to Enoch, "we are closer to my house than we are yours, so why don't you just go home with me?" Of course, Noah built an ark (according to God's instructions) that saved mankind from total destruction. Then there was Abraham...the father of the faithful. He
