Heritage (202)
David Roebuck (Director of the Dixon Pentecostal Research Center) pdroebuck@leeuniversity.edu.
• Reaching the Whole World with the Whole Church: Diversity and the Great Commission—Reaching the whole world will require the whole church. Our first missions effort represented the growing breath of the church: it was multinational with citizens of the United States and the Bahamas; it was multi-racial with persons of both European and African heritage; it was multi generational with both mature and young participants; and it included both male and female ministers. This session will help us understand our early diversity shapes our present identity and provides resources for fulfilling the Great Commission in the twenty-first century.
David G. Roebuck is the church historian for the Church of God and the director of the Dixon Pentecostal Research Center at Lee University. The Dixon Pentecostal Research Center is a special collection of Pentecostal sources and the archives of the Church of God. His education includes a M.Div. from the Church of God Theological Seminary and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Religion from Vanderbilt University. An Assistant Professor of the History of Christianity at Lee University, Dr. Roebuck regularly contributes to books and periodicals about the Pentecostal movement. He is an ordained bishop in the Church of God and has been a member of the Church of God Historical Commission since 1996. He and his wife Kimberly have two children, William and Beth.

This welcome and introductory session to the week of instruction is open to pastors, local/regional/state leaders, women in leadership, and emerging leaders.
Cathy has been involved in evangelistic and support ministry for nearly 40 years. After evangelizing throughout the United States for eight years, she and her husband John moved to Bakersfield, California were they served eight years as co-pastors of The Church of God of Prophecy. (Sanctuary) Bishop Randall Howard (General Overseer) go@cogop.org.
• Afternoon Time with the General Overseer–Bishop Howard would love to share with and hear Pastors in a discussion about where we are (evaluation) and where we might need to go (vision, calling) in the area of our ministry and relation with the Holy Spirit. There are fair indicators that Spirit Filled ministries are not passing on their Full Gospel life and experience to a new generation. In the same vein Bishop Howard would also like to dialogue with Pastors about our heritage, calling, and future journey as a Holiness Ministry. He is not interested in using this time to simply affirm the status quo but would enjoy hearing where Pastors are today and talking together about future possibilities.

Participants will be given resources that will allow them to do efficient research on available funds and a system to effectively determine if they church/organization is eligible for those funds. They will also be introduced to a system of grant writing that will put their program in the best position for possible awards.
Pastors (207)
Tim McCaleb (Former Pastor, Overseer, and Presently Serving as Haiti Rebuilding Coordinator) tmcc1200@aol.com.
• Prayer and Scripture—The Bible is often read and used in many different ways. For example some use it like a crystal ball trying to see things to come in the future, others use it as a financial guide, while some use it as a diet book. Tim believes that one of the major functions of Holy Scripture is to assist in the spiritual formation of the soul of the believer. This class will explore how Scripture can be used to guide the believer into a deeper and richer prayer life.
Heritage (202)
Paul Holt (Executive Director of Finance & Publication) pholt@cogop.org.
• The Promise & Potential of the Small Church—In so many instances, leadership in the small church can make a list of all those things that they lack to be successful – facility, finances, laborers, and etc. The purpose of this class is to remind us that God has a plan for every church, so there is promise and potential for the small church.
Bishop Paul Holt currently serves as the Executive Director of Finance & Publications at the Church of God of Prophecy International Offices. He also serves as a member of the Administrative Committee and Global Outreach Committee. He previously served as the Heritage Ministries Director and Fields of the Wood Manager. For the Church of God of Prophecy in the State of Tennessee, he is a member of the Marriage Enrichment Board and has served on the State Finance & Stewardship Committee and the Ministerial Review Board. He has served as a Senior Pastor for more than 19 years with pastorates in Rogersville, Knoxville, and Cleveland, Tennessee. He has also served as Youth Camp Director, Tennessee State Men’s Ministries Director, Tennessee Area Presbyter, and Sectional Youth Coordinator. Brother Holt worked nine years in bank operations. • Rethink Possible—You were summoned before time began. Commissioned to accomplish His cause, yet, 'stuck in the middle’ of the harsh realities of your world, limitations that disintegrate your hope and weaken your vision have brutally framed your belief in the impossible. It is time to ‘step outside’ of your realities and begin to count the stars. Stargazers see the Creator who breathed life and believe Him to fulfill His promises. It is never too late for Him to re-write your history. It is time to be "Up and Awake" to what God is doing in the earth! He is not limited in you, through you or for you! It is time, to Re-Think the Possible!
Rhonda has ministered to many men and women across this nation and in other nations for the purpose to encourage, equip and empower them to take their place in the kingdom. People are facing unprecedented challenges in their homes, jobs, relationships and challenges within themselves. Over the years, Rhonda has been witness to the bound being set free, the hurt and wounded being restored, the weak being empowered and the empowered taking their place. It is time to be released through the Word of God into a higher level of faith to pursue without restriction or limitation a God-appointed assignment for such a time as this.

Cathy Payne (International Women’s Ministries Director) Cogopwm@aol.com.
• Designing Effective Women's Ministries–Most agree the largest segment of the local church body seems to be women. According to a recent study by the Barna Research Group, women have become the backbone of the church. One statistic revealed there are up to 13 million more Christian women than men in the United States alone, and their participation rated higher than that of men in 12 out of 13 religious activities assessed, including church attendance, leadership, giving and evangelism." The Barna study further revealed that this commitment has come with a price noting that women's church attendance has dropped 22 percent in the last 20 years (since 1991), and there has been a 21 percent fall in women volunteering to help at church over the same period. "Many women appear to be burning out from their intense levels of involvement," commented BRG president George Barna. There is little question we need to reach and teach women today. Women need spiritual support as never before Women have come to the forefront as leaders in the workplace and community and they are taking on a role that thrusts them into a position that assumes a delicate balance of spiritual, emotional and physical energy. This class will challenge Pastors to look for new and creative ministries as they work together with the local church leadership team.

• Surviving a Ride through Jurassic Park—We can't lead without having people to lead. We can’t minister without engaging people in ministry. But, often leading and ministering to people can be similar to a ride through Jurassic Park – the people all seem to be ‘normal’ until we get to know them! How can we survive leadership without being disappointed, hurt, and even discouraged by the very people we are leading? How can we survive betrayal and choose to continue to love? How can we not lose our momentum when those we are leading (or leading with) lose theirs? How do we hold on to our vision when no one seems to be holding on to us? Pastor Rhonda Davis is a seasoned pastor/minister/leader who will share some of the principles of survival and thriving even while ministering in challenging opportunities.

• Reclaiming Our Holiness Heritage, Part 1—The quest for holiness derives from the church’s self-understanding as the "people of God." Both the church's identity and purpose are crucial to its relationship with God and the wider society. God calls the church (personally and corporately) to the task of living into and out of the full power of the Holy Spirit. Holiness is not only to be based on the church’s relationship with God as a separate, distinct people but also on the actualization of that holiness in relationship with the wider society. The church’s holiness demands that it really lives in accordance with the social order which God has given it, a social order which stands in sharp distinction with the pluralistic society in which it is located. As such, the church’s holiness is based on a dynamic, ongoing relationship with God—a relationship, which, in turn, is to govern believers’ relationships with the wider society as well as those within their own community (cf. 1 Cor 5:9-13; 2 Cor 6:14–7:1; 10–13). Without clear boundaries, the church loses her “prophetic” voice and moral ascendancy. The church must display the reality of sanctification, a sanctification that is framed first and foremost in corporate terms.

• 24xDouble—Pastor Brown will share insights as to doubling your congregation within 24 months. 24-2Double is a ministry model derived from Biblical principles and when applied produce amazing results. Pastor Brown has worked with longtime church growth consultant Owen Wesson. You will be inspired by your participation. Brother Brown and wife Barbara accepted a position at a small church nineteen months ago with about forty two people. The tithe was about $2,200.00 a month and after nineteen months, the average tithe is $20,000.00 per month and total giving is about $30,000.00. Our attendance average in December 2010 was 350 in morning worship and over 110 on Wednesday nights, after just nineteen months of implementing the 24-2Double principles. They minister in a bi-vocational situation.

In this session, we will engage in a discussion of what it means to be the Pentecostal Church and to be a Missional Church. How do we serve the mission of God in a multi-cultural, pluralistic society? How does the local Pentecostal church remain faithful to its heritage yet relevant to the community and culture in which it is engaged?

• Surviving The Dips Of Ministry—Have you ever noticed how often the Word of God encourages perseverance and endurance? Paul wrote to the Galatians: "So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time, we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up." Most of us entered the ministry believing our giftedness, our passion, and our calling would make a big difference. However, life doesn't usually consist of a constant upward march to success. It is a series of ups and downs, successes and failures, along with increases and decreases. The same is true about our ministry. Perhaps that is why we are encouraged so often to practice the discipline of perseverance. Based on Seth Godin's marketing book "The Dip", this workshop will help you understand the dips in our ministry are what provide the momentum for new heights!

It is so simple at times, and so complex at others. How do we reconcile some of the seeming contradictions seen in the book? The church has changed its stance on some large issues over the years—how can such strong biblical beliefs suddenly change? How can I properly dissect a passage and find its true meaning in a book written thousands of years ago? Join us, and you’ll never read your Bible in the same way again.

• The Effective Church Board/F&S Team—Effective church decisions come from a variety of sacred and secular practices. While every church may have various structures and methods that aid in the decision-making process for that local congregation, not all churches have in place an effective process. The Churches of God of Prophecy are governed by the church conference; however, it is the pastor and the church board that guide the conference in that process. Your church may call your advising team a board, committee, team, or something else, but it is not enough to have a group of members with a title for such an awesome task. The board/committee/team must be an effective, servant-minded mechanism, providing leadership for the conference. The choice is yours-you can have a stale, stagnated group who want to control and cherish a title, or you can disciple an effective servant leadership board. In this LDI, you are invited to come and see how one pastor is accomplishing the development of such a board. This class is vital for an F&S Committee member, local church, or state/regional/national overseer.

• Reclaiming our Memory: How Who We Were can Shape Who We Will Be—In the Pentecostal tradition, we have a memory deficit. We practice tradition without understanding the meaning behind the tradition, which then often confines us in not only our actions, but in our thinking as well. We are truly facing an identity crisis, and if we are unable to articulate who we are and why we do what we do, then there is little hope for the future. How can we reclaim our Pentecostal/Holiness memory? What can we learn from past generations that will benefit us at this moment? This session will explore the idea of corporate memory and why it is necessary for unity and vision in our Church...

This lesson focuses on ways to understand and communicate with people across cultural barriers so that we might more effectively reach them with the Gospel message. The church has supported sending people to reach the world for many years, but what about these same people that God has now brought to our own neighborhood? What must one know about cultural perspectives to more efficiently share the message of Jesus Christ?

• Missions Is the Essential Nature of the Holy Spirit and the Focus of Spirit Baptism—Is the first thing we think of when someone speaks of Spirit Baptism "Missions?" Maybe it should be. The Holy Spirit in general and Spirit Baptism in specific will be re-visted with the emphasis of mission as central, foundational and prescriptive to the Pentecostal paradigm. Old Testament and New Testament texts will be explored, demonstrating that the point of Pentecost was the harvest. The "Acts" interpretation of early Pentecostals of the last century will be entertained as well as the early developments of the Pentecostal movement to further demonstrate our appreciation of the centrality of mission to Spirit Baptism from our own traditions. Finally, the nature of the Spirit as paraclete in John's recordings of the teaching of Jesus will be explored to hopefully provide us with a fuller picture of the love/ reconciliation, fellowship and presence of the Spirit and mission than sometimes our "power" emphasis from Acts has provided for us. Ultimately the power for service of the Luke Acts directives are embedded in the fellowship of the Spirit from John's recordings of the teachings of Jesus. The presence, love, and fellowship of the Holy Spirit will be demonstrated as central to the power of Pentecost which transforms us and focuses our hearts and efforts on a lost world for whom Jesus has untiring love. What should we think of when someone say Pentecostal? Missionaries empowered with love. Time will be provided to discuss, question and develop this thesis and its implications for our movement as a whole and our local church and ministry.

• Disciple-Makers: The Pastoral Mandate—This seminar focuses on the true business of the pastoral ministry . . . transforming new believers into disciples of Christ. The pastor makes a difference in his/her world. Pastors combine their stories, calling, and philosophy with their knowledge and experience in their ministry practice to help others grow into the full stature of Jesus Christ. The pastoral mandate is a shepherding experience of tending to God's people in ways that no other ministry does. Pastoral ministry is the catalyst for "life-changing events" in the lives of those we shepherd. To share these events is best described as "nourishment" absolutely unknown to other ministries. Average, ordinary pastors package their stories, callings, and experience into extraordinary ministries of service to the people of God. We endeavor to become experts in the Bible in order to be better servants; in order to empower other believers to become disciples; in order to make a difference in our communities. The heart of a pastor is to dish up the wisdom of God's Word so that those he/she serves will be inspired and committed to follow Christ. In this present age – driven by the Internet, Wikipedia, Google, Twitter and Facebook – the new class of pastors must be savvy concerning technology, knowledge, and relevancy. They will be filled with the Holy Spirit and engender relationships with people based on authenticity, trust, and added value.

• Putting on Your Thinking Cap—Every pastor/leader knows the satisfaction of a productive board or committee meeting, and the disappointment of one gone awry. In this workshop, participants will learn how to incorporate parallel thinking when addressing issues that need a solution. Parallel thinking is a construct popularized by Edward de Bono in which every thinker puts forward his/her thoughts in parallel with the thoughts of others. It is based upon the premise of parallel thinking in which each participant puts forward his or her thoughts in parallel with the thoughts of others. This provides for a more constructive alternative to argumentative or drifting thinking. Six colored thinking caps are identified within the problem solving discussion. Each color represents a different perspective. Every thinker "wears" the same colored thinking cap until that perspective has been fully explored. At the end of the process, every thinker in the room is able to see more clearly other viewpoints. Studies have shown that using this process of decision making brings groups of people to a consensus much more quickly and efficiently.

• The Equipping Pastor/The Equipping Church—A certain company ran ads where a mother is stressed with all her work and filled with a tension headache. She is trying to teach a child to accomplish a task. The child is slow to catch on. Finally, in exasperation, the mother shouts, “Get out of here I would rather do it myself!” An exasperated pastor may say, “In order to accomplish a task do it yourself if you want it done right.” This attitude will go quick but only so far. If pastor wants to lead a healthy ministry, he must broaden his base of leadership to increase his capacity for ministry. It takes longer but it grows stronger. Join this facilitator as he provides a biblical foundation for understanding, equipping and releasing others to do what God has called them to do.

• Jesus' Mission Is Our Purpose—The art of evangelism is loved by some, while others dislike and fear it. The biblical concept of this important truth has been placed on the shelf, and the results are exhausted Christians and failing Churches. However, after years of neglecting this vibrant ministry there is a renewed excitement about its significance to the Church. It is coming from the rebuilding of a biblical foundation for evangelism, while providing practical options to help us reach people for Christ in a postmodern environment. The energetic renewal of local churches depends on the obedience of its members to the mission of Jesus Christ.

This class will explore how Scripture can be used to guide the believer into a deeper and richer prayer life.

• The Church We Are Called to Be: Missional AND Pentecostal—How does a movement born in the 20th century sustain its witness in the 21st?

• What Every Believer Should Know About the Bible, Part 1—The Bible has been studied and dissected for years, yet no one has ever completely mastered it.
