Fields of the Wood Visit

Fields of the Wood 2012
Today, a large part of the International Administrative Committee/Corporate Board of Directors met at the Fields of the Wood near Murphy, North Carolina.  It was a beautiful day for the drive through the scenic winding roads.  When we arrived there we received a warm welcome from the staff and took the opportunity to look at many of the improvements, most notably the upgrade to the bookstore and cafe.  There is still much to be done to bring the park up to date, but that would require cash infusions into the budget.

At the base of Ten Commandment mountain, I remembered the story my mother told me about accepting her call into the ministry, and a reaffirmation of my father's call to preach the Gospel.  They labored in small churches and sacrificed much to fulfill the call.  As I was sharing, Bishop Howard, our General Overseer talked about the fruit of their ministry.  While they weren't well known, the children and grandchildren are working in the Church of God of Prophecy, carrying on a legacy of faithfulness to the work of the Lord.

If you might be interested in how to support Fields of the Wood,  Heritage Ministries memberships are only $20 a year and donations are always accepted.

Prayer Request

Yesterday and today have been filled with non-stop preparations and meetings for the General Assembly. The State/National Overseers will be traveling to begin meeting this week in Nashville. Will you please join me in prayer for travel mercies for all of those on their way to Nashville? Also, Sister Wilma Massengale is still in Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. This precious lady and her family need our prayer support, and I hope you will join me in prayer for them, believing the Lord is able to meet their need.

Come Down From That Ivory Tower

Hebrews 11 has become known as the "Hall of Faith." The reason is quite simple. The writer spends a great deal of time giving a role call of the heroes of the faith. After all, this chapter is about faith, and what better way to teach faith than to illustrate with some real-life examples. Mos of the people in this chapter are well-known, at least by anyone who spent time squirming in a Sunday School class as a small child, or who watched the late-night movies on the local channels featuring their stories. Who were they? Abel, Enoch and Noah. Abel pleased God with his excellent offering, Enoch was so close to God that he actually walked with God to the point that one evening, while walking God said to Enoch, "we are closer to my house than we are yours, so why don't you just go home with me?" Of course, Noah built an ark (according to God's instructions) that saved mankind from total destruction. Then there was Abraham...the father of the faithful. He...

I AM SHARING A NOTICE I JUST RECEIVED FROM PASTOR TERRY BARNWELL (KNOXVILLE- ARROWHEAD) Hi Brother; I pray your day is going along well. I wanted to let you know of the passing of Sister Clara McMahan this morning. Her husband Claude has served as deacon for over 52 years at the Arrowhead church. This wonderful lady has touched thousands of lives across Tennessee. She is the sister of Charlie Weaver. The day you and Sister McKinley were with us on the Home Coming Sunday if you remember the youth presented this couple with a light house they had built for them. Sister Clara will be greatly missed greatly. I will let you know the arrangements when I get them if you wished to attend the services. If your schedule will not permit I understand, but I just wanted you to know. Love you and have a blessed day; Bro. Terry
