Prayer for Lindsey

Good Evening,

Many of you are aware that our daughter Lindsey was involved in a automobile accident last Friday (July 28, 2006) while enroute to visit a friend in Atlanta. Just to recap, in case you didn't hear about it, let me share the details again. She was traveling southbound on I-75 when she almost hit a part of a retreat tire on the interstate. She swerved to miss it and hit the guardrail at about 70-miles-per-hour. She lost control and went across three lanes and came to rest on the right shoulder of the road. She was driving my 2000 Ford Explorer, a vehicle that is known for rollovers, however, she remained upright. That in itself is proof that the Lord had His hand on her. Secondly, the fact that she was not hit by any of the heavy traffic.

She called me right after the accident and I happened to be in Chattanooga at the time, so I was able to get to her within about 35 minutes (I won't mention how fast I was traveling, but I will say that the Lord kept His hand on me too). The Georgia State Trooper told me that he had seen people killed with much less impact than what Lindsey experienced. The vehicle had to be towed away because it was not drivable. My guess is that the axle is broken, and perhaps the frame too. I just don't know.

Many of you called, emailed and checked on her, and it really made her day to know that so many people had been praying for, and checking on her. From the depths of my heart I want to say "thank you."

Today, after several days of difficulty, Lindsey decided to go to the doctor. She was sent for an xray and it was discovered that she has a separated shoulder. We are to be contacted by an orthopedic surgeon's office tomorrow to arrange for her to be treated. As far as we know, this is the extent of her injuries, however, as you know, some things take time to show up. At first, we thought she was simply sore from the impact, and the restraining pressure of her seat belt, however, now we know it is more.

Will you please join me in praying for her? You have been so kind so far, and I am deeply grateful. Again, thanks for being there....

God bless.

E.C. McKinley

Come Down From That Ivory Tower

Hebrews 11 has become known as the "Hall of Faith." The reason is quite simple. The writer spends a great deal of time giving a role call of the heroes of the faith. After all, this chapter is about faith, and what better way to teach faith than to illustrate with some real-life examples. Mos of the people in this chapter are well-known, at least by anyone who spent time squirming in a Sunday School class as a small child, or who watched the late-night movies on the local channels featuring their stories. Who were they? Abel, Enoch and Noah. Abel pleased God with his excellent offering, Enoch was so close to God that he actually walked with God to the point that one evening, while walking God said to Enoch, "we are closer to my house than we are yours, so why don't you just go home with me?" Of course, Noah built an ark (according to God's instructions) that saved mankind from total destruction. Then there was Abraham...the father of the faithful. He
