Hectic Schedules and Great Expectations

Well folks, its here. People have began their travels that will bring them to Nashville for the Bi-Annual General Assembly of the Church of God of Prophecy. Later today (Tuesday) I am to have dinner with an overseer and his family as they travel through to make pre-move arrangements to their new field of labor, and the scheduled arrival of others at the airport is quickly filling up.

Tomorrow, I will participate in a leadership meeting of the task force and the vendors in Nashville for last-minute arrangements and on Thursday morning we begin our deliberations to find the individual we believe God has chosen to be the next General Overseer. That individual is to be presented to the General Assembly next week. The General Assembly will either accept or reject this individual.

From here on, I will not be in the office until after the General Assembly. As a task force member, I will be working early to late each day to help the General Assembly happen. I covet your prayers, as I want to participate in all of the assembly, work in the altars and take care of the various responsibilities that are upon us.

PLEASE NOTE: I will be posting to this blog on a regular basis (daily, I hope) so that you can keep up with events. PLEASE CHECK BACK OFTEN.

Since I will be out of the office, I want each of you to know that I am available...we will be checking messages at the office. If you should need to reach me, you can either leave a message, call my cellphone or email me by CLICKING HERE. I will have my Blackberry with me and should get your email almost as quickly as you send the message.

Again, we covet your prayers during this next 12 days. God bless.

Come Down From That Ivory Tower

Hebrews 11 has become known as the "Hall of Faith." The reason is quite simple. The writer spends a great deal of time giving a role call of the heroes of the faith. After all, this chapter is about faith, and what better way to teach faith than to illustrate with some real-life examples. Mos of the people in this chapter are well-known, at least by anyone who spent time squirming in a Sunday School class as a small child, or who watched the late-night movies on the local channels featuring their stories. Who were they? Abel, Enoch and Noah. Abel pleased God with his excellent offering, Enoch was so close to God that he actually walked with God to the point that one evening, while walking God said to Enoch, "we are closer to my house than we are yours, so why don't you just go home with me?" Of course, Noah built an ark (according to God's instructions) that saved mankind from total destruction. Then there was Abraham...the father of the faithful. He

The family will receive visitors Friday at Rush Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Dr. David Horton, a veteran member of the Lee University music faculty, died suddenly Monday evening following an apparent heart attack. Horton was in Nassau, Bahamas, on the first day of a post-commencement ministry tour with Campus Choir when he was stricken. His wife Virginia was with him as they returned to their hotel following dinner when he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to a hospital.
