Yesterday, I wrote asking the question, "Whatever happened to sin?" One of our readers posted a comment (Thanks Don) which was one step ahead of me.
Yes, sin abounds, and in fact, the closer we get to the return of the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4) the more sin will abound (Romans 5:20). I especially like the way this is shared in the NIV....
"The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,..."
Jesus told us that as the times grow more wicked, there will be a "flood" of immorality ...this is, of course, a sign of the end times. "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." (Matthew 24:12). And it is at such times that we cannot forget the words the great Apostle Paul said, to his "son" in the faith....
2 Timothy 3:1-3
"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,...."
We must be ever on guard that our hearts be "fixed" on God, and not swayed by the contemporary times. My prayer is that we will see our churches grow numerically as we grow spiritually. God bless.
