Church Mission Progress...Henderson, TN

This morning, Debra and I were privileged to worship with the congregation of the mission work in Henderson, located in West Tennessee. This was a very special day, in that it was the one-year-anniversary of the work of Joe and Barbara Watson in Henderson.

It was also special, because we participated in a ground-breaking ceremony for the new church. This is quite an accomplishment for the young congregation, and one I was thrilled to see. The land was donated for the church, and is located just south of the Henderson City limits on Hwy 45, a major highway. Such a prominent location is sure to be a great attraction to those looking for a church alive!

This mission church, known as "Living Waters Fellowship" lives us to the name they've chosen. I was especially blessed to see a brief history of their beginning and the statement of purpose which I am sharing with you today....

OUR BEGINNING

On August 20, 2006 a mission of the Church of God of Prophecy opened its doors just south of Henderson, TN in an office building on the southbound lane of Hwy 45. Twelve people met for worship at 10:30 a.m. The congregation was led by Bishop Joe D. Watson, and in attendance were Barbara Watson, Clayton Delrosa, Anita Grantham, David Grantham, Christian Jordan, Kim Jordan, Bobby Turner, Virginia Turner, Blondell Williams, David Williams and Mary Grace Wilson.

OUR PURPOSE

The next few weeks, the purpose of our mission was discussed and prayed over. The congregation decided upon the name "Living Waters Fellowship" because it closely described the ministry that was desired by the group. Jesus stated in John 7:38, "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of 'living water.'"

We know that others can preach just as well, teach as correctly, and sing just as good. We are not here to compete with our fellow servants, but we are here to reach those they can't or won't reach. There are plenty of people on the outer edge of society, and we mean to reach out to them. Our methods may be nonconventional at times but we believe the rewards will be great.

OUR BELIEF

We believe that everyone should hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. Great efforts should be made by all those who have a personal relationship with Him. As many as possible need to hear the Love Story and the judgment of God. God has sent us to the streets and lanes, the highway and hedges and compel them to come. Come as you are! Everyone, no matter your class, station or past has a right to be invited. When they hear the invitation, and they make their way to the church, they are treated with dignity. There is warmth, love and a sweet invitation to come believe and receive.

OUR FUTURE

We are not here to just, "sit a spell," dry up and fall off. No, No, we are here until Jesus comes. We must be busy with His business. We must live His life. We must walk His walk, talk His talk, and love with His love. We will make great efforts to minister on many fronts. We will spend and be spent. What we are is not what we shall be. When Jesus does come back, He will find us going forward."

Come Down From That Ivory Tower

Hebrews 11 has become known as the "Hall of Faith." The reason is quite simple. The writer spends a great deal of time giving a role call of the heroes of the faith. After all, this chapter is about faith, and what better way to teach faith than to illustrate with some real-life examples. Mos of the people in this chapter are well-known, at least by anyone who spent time squirming in a Sunday School class as a small child, or who watched the late-night movies on the local channels featuring their stories. Who were they? Abel, Enoch and Noah. Abel pleased God with his excellent offering, Enoch was so close to God that he actually walked with God to the point that one evening, while walking God said to Enoch, "we are closer to my house than we are yours, so why don't you just go home with me?" Of course, Noah built an ark (according to God's instructions) that saved mankind from total destruction. Then there was Abraham...the father of the faithful. He...

A question about your church...

This last few days I have been in the State of Kentucky. I came here with my wife, whose father was having medical tests as of the results of a probable heart attack. He seems to be doing well (as of tonight) and is scheduled for one more test, then hopefully he will be released and further treatments to bring him to health. While this is a scary moment for my wife's family it has also been a time to step away from the daily work and observe others around us. Since Debra's father is a pastor (Church of God of Prophecy, Central City, KY) there have been visits from the State Presiding Bishop, Scott Gillum, area pastors and of course some of his church members. It is heartening to watch the love and concern that is show by those visiting. There has also been quite a few of Debra's extended family here, along with her younger brother and his family. I've watch the nurses and technicians at the Owensboro Medical Center demonstrate concern and what seems to be good care...

On my way to a resurrection

Someone asked, "Are you on your way to another funeral?"  My answer was, "No, I am on my way to a resurrection."  Tonight, after having preached my sister's funeral, two church members funerals and visiting a friend whose brother had passed away, I had a little quiet time in my home office.  As I often do, I reach for an old book  I've found that some books written long ago can speak to my heart.  This time, it was a book published in 1946.  This passage from J.B. Chapman touched my heart, hope it does yours too.  Victor Hugo exclaimed, "The frosts of seventy winters are on my head, but the springtime of eternal youth is in my heart." "Sometimes we look at the gray hair of a ripening saint, and say, "Old man, the frosts of many winters are on your head."  But he answers, "That is not frost.  I am getting ready to wear the crown of life, and my hair is taking on tint agreeable to the color scheme."   We say, "Ol...
