Gertrude Turner

RECEIVED FROM PASTOR CHIP MEADOWS

I received word this today that Sister Gertrude Turner passed away this morning. Sister Turner was a devout Christian for many years, and she lived an exemplary life. I, for one, am very happy that I had the privilege of knowing Sister Turner. She was a living example of what it means to be a Christian. I never heard her speak a word of criticism. She simply loved people.

During her lifetime, Sister Turner experienced many hardships, yet I never heard her utter a word of complaining (I doubt anyone did). She had submitted her life to the Lord, and she trusted Him completely.

Several weeks ago, I went to visit with her in the hospital. She was pitiful and obviously in pain. She said the thought she was sicker than she’d ever been. But when we began to pray for her, this sick little lady raised her hands in the air and began to praise the Lord. Now, how awesome is that?

As I have thought of this precious lady this afternoon, the words of the apostle Paul came to mind: “..when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:54-55, emphasis mine).

I will post funeral arrangements as soon as I know them. In the mean time, please join me in prayer for the family.

Chip

Prayer Request

Yesterday and today have been filled with non-stop preparations and meetings for the General Assembly. The State/National Overseers will be traveling to begin meeting this week in Nashville. Will you please join me in prayer for travel mercies for all of those on their way to Nashville? Also, Sister Wilma Massengale is still in Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. This precious lady and her family need our prayer support, and I hope you will join me in prayer for them, believing the Lord is able to meet their need.
